Sons move up to eighth

Dumbarton press forward
Dumbarton survived a determined second half comeback away at Alloa Athletic this afternoon, winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Pat Walker, Jon McShane and Ryan McStay.

With other results going the right way, the result lifts Sons off the bottom of the Second Division table.

In a tempestuous game, Dumbarton more than matched the home side for pace and movement and took a 2-0 lead with goals either side of the break. But when first Kevin Motion and then Bryan Puntry hit back for the Wasps, it looked as if Sons might have to be content with a point.

Then Ryan McStay stepped up to provide the winning goal, and after holding on in a frantic finale Dumbarton now sit in eighth position in the league – although Stenhousemuir and East Fife still have games in hand.
